Is cycling bad for your knees?
Yun Qing on on 13/7/09
I've heard that cycling is not supposed to be hard on your knees if you're using the proper technique, but everytime I cycle long distance my knees (and butt) hurts like crazy... any tips on this?

Your legs should be almost striaghten when the pedal is at it lowest....

doesn't that mean that my feet cannot touch the ground when my bike is stationary?

Your Butt is not suppose to be on the saddle when its stationary. At this position, your crotch is suppose to clear off about an inch above the crossbar. It is important that you at a right bike frame.

I cycle everyday to work but knees and butt are pretty ok. It just a matter of getting used to it. Well, if cycling is bad for knees, then jogging is even worse?

You need to have proper riding posture and know how to use your gears effectively. With proper riding posture, it should be fine most of the time. Shift to lighter gears if there's too much pressure for your knees during the pedaling motion.
There are a couple of sites that guide you on bike fit/adjustment, as well as proper riding posture.
